Cross Country Leagues

In addition to our regular training sessions, club members gain inclusive entry into two different race leagues (see below). Members also take part in various local and national events, often entering teams into relay events such as the Green belt relay. The most popular event recently has been the Great South Run with over 40 members attending.

 MABAC Running League

MABAC arranges a series of races throughout the year, particularly aimed at the fun runner. Most are cross-country events held on Sunday mornings in some beautiful parts of the Surrey countryside, and are very popular with club members and guests. As well as the senior race of just over 8 km (5 miles) there are also joggers’ and junior events of about 4 km (2.5 miles). Afterwards, runners have been known to find a local pub. Other events are also held, including longer open races.

Southern Cross Country League

Each year during the winter months the club competes in the Southern Cross Country League. The league consists of more than 20 clubs from the Surrey and Hampshire areas and around 300 runners of all ages take to the start line for each event. Races are free to club members and everybody is welcome to participate.

All runs are held on Sundays at 11am and are around 5 miles in length. Whilst the competition at the front may be fierce, the true purpose of the league is to create a welcoming environment for all participants.

The rules for the league can be found here. These are wonderful (if slightly muddy) events, held in beautiful locations and with the added benefit of the host club providing tea, sandwiches and cakes at the end for a small fee (£2 last year).
