Festive cheer for Waverley Harriers at latest Cross Country

Waverley Harriers Cross countryAs the Christmas period unfolded 21 Waverley Harriers headed to Lord Wandsworth College for the 4th Race of the Southern Cross County League season.

The day saw a glaring sun and a chill to the air, perfect conditions for cross country running. Various members had run this course the previous year and described it as “undulating and muddy.”

The course started off with more than 300 runners dashing across a playing field followed by a meandering trench of mud, grassy slope and a very steep lung busting hill. This was repeated twice before the runners had to dig deep for energy to get back up to the start through muddy fields. Unfortunately Teresa Male rolled her ankle on the course and was spotted limping back up to the start. We hope she recovers from her injury quickly and is back out running soon.

Hart Road runners put on an impressive display of cakes and sandwiches which was enjoyed while runners awaited the results.

Waverley Harriers put in an impressive display with the both the men and ladies finishing 8th. Overall Waverley Harriers stood at a respectable 7th postion out of 22 teams and continues the recent strong showing by the club during the cross country season which we hope to continue throughout 2015.
