Position/Role?
Club Captain
What does that involve?
I manage the coordination of the two cross-country leagues that our club participates in. I’m also responsible for keeping the group chats active by sharing updates about upcoming races and encouraging interest in these events. Additionally, I assist in organizing other group races, including the Elstead Village Marathon, Cranleigh 7/14/21, and the Surrey Slog.

When did running begin for you?
April 2017 with The Waverley Harriers Couch to 5KM program!
Why do you run?
I started running to get fitter, but over the years, it’s become something I truly love. The freedom it gives me and the mental clarity it brings on tough days make it all worthwhile. I enjoy the social aspect of running, whether it’s with friends or just enjoying the solitude, blasting tunes through my headphones and imagining I’m in a movie or music video.

What club activities/events will we likely see you at?
You would typically see me most Tuesdays and Thursdays but also at Cross Country events.
How long have you been with the club?
Coming up to 8 years this April (2025)

What race or moment in your running career holds the most significance and why?
Theres two for me:
Running the London Marathon was a goal I mentioned on the spot back in 2019, and it became a reality. I ran for the charity Asthma and Lungs UK, both as an asthmatic myself and in memory of my Grandad, who also struggled with asthma and other lung conditions, sadly my Grandad is no longer with us, but I look back on the marathon and my conversations we shared with great pride. My mum joined me, along with a few friends, which made the entire day even more special. The energy of the crowds at the marathon is something truly unforgettable—I’ve never experienced anything like it!
Running the Fox Relay in 2024 was an exciting experience, especially since I’ve been a huge fan of the fox since I first raced in the relay back in 2019. This time, I ran with my fiancé Sam and our friend Chris. The strong turnout from the Harriers made the race even more thrilling, and crossing the finish line, knowing I was bringing my team home, was made all the more memorable by the loud and enthusiastic Waverley Harrier welcome (which is truly the best kind)!

Who is your running inspiration?
Keely Hodgkinson and Anya Culling. I also draw inspiration from the people within the club, whether it’s those training for personal bests or tough races, or newcomers giving Cross Country a go for the first time!
What event, past or present, would you like to take part in and why?
I’d love to run another marathon at some point, but I’m also drawn to the idea of tackling an ultra! I’ve even been considering the Super Halfs as well.
What golden piece of advice would you give to other runners?
Listen to your body, it knows best! Also, do not forget to cross-train for injury prevention!

What’s next?
To fully recover from my injury and just enjoy running again! I’m also excited for events like Endure 24, the Surrey Slog, and hopefully more trail races. Outside of running, I’m looking forward to finishing my nursing degree next year and marrying my fiancé, Sam!
Favorite race bling/medal/top and reasons why?
My favorite medal is from the Loseley Breakfast Run because it resembles a slice of toast. In fact, it was the medal itself that inspired me to sign up for the race in the first place!
