On the Spot (meet the team) – Dave Elder

Position/Role?

Club Secretary

What does that involve?

Set up dates for committee meetings and collating the agenda, organising the AGM and club ballot, circulating notes and actions.

When did running begin for you?

Short runs with my dad. School cross country

Why do you run?

Running is something that’s always a been with me. I miss it when I can’t run. And I know I’m not at my best if I haven’t run. Mix of escapism, appreciating the outdoors, and mindfulness (before I knew what mindfulness was)

What club activities/events will we likely see you at? (e.g. track, thursdays, cross country etc)

Love Tuesday track structure, if you haven’t been, please come, it’s not intimidating. Regular at Thursday sessions

How long have you been with the club?

Since 2017

What race or moment in your running career holds the most significance and why?

Paris Marathon. It was my second marathon, so better prepared than my first marathon. Breaking sub 3 was a big personal achievement

Who is your running inspiration?

My dad has been active throughout his life, and always one for following his passions. My inspiration is also for whoever beat me at my last race 🙂

What event, past or present, would you like to take part in and why?

UTMB, for it’s iconic nature

What golden piece of advice would you give to other runners?

If your considering going for a run, go, I rarely regret going for one. Accept your running motivation goes in waves. Finally listen to your body. If you are feeling run-down on the start of a cold don’t go flog yourself in the cold rain

What’s next?

Running with this friendly supportive club
