ON THE SPOT – PENNY ELLIOTT

PennyOn the spot – Penny Elliott

We like to hear regularly from the Waverley Harriers and see what motivates them, and each month we have been asking nominated members the same questions. So far we have heard from Steve Rogers, Ruth Lyon, Ali Rand, Tracy Burgess & Kate Horne and now this month we hear from Penny Elliott who was nominated by Kate.

When did running begin for you?

When I was 49yrs

Why do you run?

I love to be outside and the freedom, especially round here so many great places to run

What race or moment in your running career holds the most significance and why? That’s difficult, I have 3.

The South Downs 80, I did it in 16hrs 47mins.

The Grand Union Canal, 145mls, I came 16th, 51started 21 finished.

Being number 1 in the UK in my age group for 5k, 10k, half marathon and marathon. I never thought I was that good, it was a lovely surprise

Who is your running inspiration?

Don’t have one.

What event, past or present, would you like to take part in and why?

I have to say I really enjoyed doing ultra’s. What would have been great would have been to have the club runners that do trail and ultra’s today, running with me then.

What golden piece of advice would you give to other runners?

I would say listen to your body, but of course I didn’t that’s why I’m where I am today!!

What’s next?

To master this injury and get out there again. So to keep me out of trouble I’m on a bike, getting fit to try and do the Prudential 100ml ride.
