Strong Cross Country performance as the Waverley Harriers turn out in force

Bourne Woods

There was a great turnout from the club on Sunday who were out in force at the latest round of Cross Country at Bourne Woods. A total of 23 club members were there including a our own support crew and official photographer, Heather Fordham!

There were approximately 400 runners taking part in the event which saw the men come 9th, the ladies 7th and overall we were 7th out of 22 Clubs delivering yet another brilliant result for the club.

The team for the day  included two cross country debutants Bill Fordham and Simon Crabbe as well as:

Mark Hobbs, Jeremy Meredith, Mark Rowland, Steve Carpenter, Julian Tasker, David Male, Jon Evison, Alexis Shirtliff, Jonathan Newth, Andrew Lockett, Ben Mayhew, JP Pritchard, Nigel Sharp, Ruth Lyon, Liz Hoare, Teresa Male, Bryony North, Gemma Whitehouse, Rachel Greener, Wendy Wright & club captain Sarah Frost

Afterwards Club Cross Country Captain Sarah Frost shared her thoughts on the event:
“I was impressed with the commitment displayed by the 23 runners as the Hogs Back race also took place on the same day which is a local race. The weather conditions were perfect with light drizzle at the start followed by beautiful sunshine! The route was challenging but scenic and due to the sandy nature of the terrain was not too muddy! The team spirit was amazing – lots of laughter, support and chat! The refreshments were also a highlight – a wide variety and volume of sandwiches and decadent cakes…
Linda Sharp decided not to run on the day but still came to support the team and ended up cheering us on as well as writing up Team Waverley’s results! Her ‘administrative’ support was hugely appreciated by me!”
The pictures below show some of the club in action at the start of the event, together with a team photo from the day.

The last two rounds of the Cross Country have seen us really well represented with the club delivering fantastic results, and it would be good to see this continue, so please note that the next cross country takes place on 28th December at Lord Wandsworth College.
