- Providing Welfare Officers (Paul & Arianna) as people you may speak to with confidentiality about any concerns you have.
Healthy debate will continue on Facebook but if we see something we consider to be misleading then we will remind people of the official advice.
The Chain
On 1st April we began our ‘Chain’ challenge, to keep two people from our club running/walking (alone of course) at all times between 6:30am and 8pm. I think it is safe to say that you have made this a wonderful success.
As of today, we have been going for seven days straight and have covered well over 1,000 miles in total. Our red and blue teams have been enjoying some friendly rivalry and the weekend even saw the release of two music videos! If you aren’t on Facebook and wish to see them then please get in touch and we’ll send you the links.
More than 75 of you have taken part in this challenge so far, around 40% of our active membership.
Can’t Run? Watch Instead
Our movie recommendation for the week is ‘Brittany Runs a Marathon’ on Amazon Video.
This film is all about the journey to get fit again, with all its highs and lows. Probably best to watch it after the children have gone to bed!
News
April’s Sportsshoes discount code
The new www.sportsshoes.com code for the month of April is GJT3 – valid until 3rd May 2020.
Tower Challenge
Another great weekend of running by everyone, for many of you this included searching for towers for the latest photo challenge.
Creativity points go to Paul Sansom for his Strava art and for the second week in a row, Peter Aiello for his Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Session Ideas
Below are last week’s virtual sessions for you to try. If you would like to share pictures or videos of yourself then please send them to communications@waverleyharriers.co.uk and we will post them in next week’s newsletter for other members to enjoy.
Tuesday: 15-20mins warm-up consisting of an easy jog with a few drills for about 20secs each if you can, e.g. high-knees, kick-backs, side-stepping, fast feet etc. Follow this up with an ‘inverted pyramid’ session made up of efforts of increasing and then decreasing duration: 1min, 2min, 3min, 4min, 4min, 3min, 2min, 1min with 90 seconds recovery between each. Efforts should be at or around 5k pace, faster if possible for the shorter ones. Finish with a 5/10min jog to cool down.
Thursday: An off-road route this week, shorter but with some climbing. You can find it here. Start at the blue cow and then head down Catteshall lane to the old white house, turn right and follow the track to the left and then up the hill, cross the road and take the next right, from here you can follow the route to Brighton road and enjoy the downhill back to the cow.
Weekend Challenge: Join our ‘Tower’ challenge. Send us a picture of you with a local tower!
Stick to the latest advice, look out for each other and stay tuned for next week’s instalment.
Speak to you next week
John & Gary
